How to get Caste Certificate in Tamil Nadu


The Tamil Nadu Government has recently provided some certain benefits for the lower backward communities in terms of education and employment and these opportunities will be offered to them for their betterment. As you all know that Caste certificates is very essential to get these benefits. There are number of school students who especially require this caste  certificates.

Here is the procedure to obtain the caste certificate in Tamilnadu:

The concerned revenue Department has recently issues the caste certificate informing that the applicant who belongs to a particular caste which is listed by the Tamil Nadu government. This is specially required by the students and individuals joining government services.
This certificate can be used for several years. An individual cannot change his / her caste once he/she issued the caste certificate . However, while converting into another religion, the class may change necessitating a new caste/community certificate.

So when you need to convert into another religion, the concerned individuals should register the same and obtain new caste certificate in the state.

Hence there are various other reasons too apart from education when caste certificate is required. For example, the 2-daughters welfare scheme. A specific certificate only for this purpose will be issued. And also state govt has given various facilities.

Where to apply for community certificate:

An applications for caste certificate are available at the local Ward offices. This applications must be duly filled and also attached with the important documents such as Ration Cards, Transfer Certificates, and parent`s caste certificate,voter id card, land receipt, rent receipt, etc,.. These are required in order to simplify the procedure and quicker release of certificates.

And if any applicant does not have ration card, caste certificate, can still to be issued from the concerned department. The caste certificate can be processed with the help of given details of an applicant in the application form. Any officer is not allowed to insist any additional evidences. In that case, additional cooperation from the applicant is required. Ward office has the authority to verify the facts and take decisions regarding the certificate.

  • Full name of the Applicant
  • Father/Husband’s Name
  • Sex (Male/Female)
  • Complete and Permanent Residential Address
  • Ration Card No (Copy to be attached)
  • School Leaving Certificate (Copy to be attached)
  • Details of Caste Certificate of Parents
  • Details of School Certificates of Parents(if any)
  • Date of application
